I’m Christine McLaren, an award-winning journalist and editor who builds special projects, collaborations and other journalistic endeavours that make you go: “cool.” I work on a project-by-project basis with news organizations, helping strategize and execute ideas that make ambitious and creative journalism come to life.

What I do.
Special Projects and Collaborations
I help plan, design and execute special projects and journalistic collaborations. Combining editorial expertise with mad project management skills, I work with newsrooms of all sizes and budgets to deliver projects that are rigorous, ambitious and ooh-aah beautiful.
From project ideation and budgeting to managing reporters, editing copy, developing fact-checking plans and guiding web design, I’ve done it all, soup to nuts. Many times.
Editorial and Organizational Strategy
Using structured decision-making tools, I help media organizations and newsrooms figure out where they want to go, and chart a course to get there.
If you’re an editor that needs to define and measure impact, expand a certain aspect of your work or appeal to new funders, I can help you put together a practical plan. If you hate making the gant charts necessary to make sure all your projects will get done this year, I can make those too. Need a five year plan, or a short-term strategy to meet your editorial goals? Call me.
Creative Translation
I enjoy finding creative ways to make journalism accessible to new audiences in unexpected and powerful ways. I have worked on projects translating journalism into digital books, museum exhibitions, videos, talks, workshops, playful interactive events, competitive trivia nights and more. I am inspired by projects turning investigative reporting into stand-up comedy, graphic novels and film and television.
I’m not en expert in these fields, but I love finding, vetting and working with creative collaborators to find common language, boundaries and ambitions.
